Prepping for Fall

  • August 28, 2015

Fall is more than cooler weather. It’s the perfect time to get your home in tip-top shape for the changing seasons. Follow our guide on the best chores to get your home fall-ready.
Add Outdoor Lighting – Soon it will get darker much earlier in the evening. Prepare for this by adding outdoor lighting to your home. Lights that line pathways are ideal to prevent tripping as well as motion sensor floodlights that will go on when you pull into your driveway.
Check Your Heating System – Avoid spending chilly days in your home by receiving a routine maintenance check on your heating system. This is the busy time of year for getting furnaces looked at so schedule an appointment early!
Reevaluate Your Emergency Pack – Inclement weather has the potential to keep you stranded in your home for days, especially if you live in an area with heavy snowfall. This year is supposed to bring incredibly storms nationwide. Open up your emergency pack now (or go build one if you don’t have one yet!) and make sure everything is good to go. No expired products and plenty of necessities should be readily on hand.
Clean Out Gutters – Pull out that ladder and take a peek in your gutters. Ensuring leaves and debris are cleared out will help prevent backups and leaks in your roof.
Pull Out Fall Decorations – Nothing gets you more in the mood for a warm and cozy fall season than decorating. Adding deep oranges, yellows, reds, and browns to your décor, both inside and outside, will brighten up your home even on the gloomiest of days. Bring out the gourds, pumpkins, leaves, and candles to liven up fireplace mantles, staircase rails, and front porches to give off an inviting and festive feel.
Fall can be a gloomy time of year. But it can also be quite spectacular. Embrace the cooler weather and falling leaves while ensuring your home is prepared for the season.
