City vs. Country Life

  • October 01, 2015

There’s a clear distinction between city life and country life. Most people prefer one to the other and choose to purchase a home with these preferences and pros and cons in mind. Let’s explore both here:
City Life
Hustle and Bustle – Large cities often boast a hustle-and-bustle lifestyle with booming downtowns, big buildings, shops galore, and food to satisfy your every craving. Most people are attracted to city life because of the fast-paced style and constant entertainment provided.
Nightlife – Another common feature of big cities is the nightlife. Quite contrary to their small-town counterpart is the idea that restaurants, bars, clubs, and other activities are open late to accommodate the older crowd ready to enjoy a night of festivities.
Options – City life offers extensive options in almost any category. From clothing stores to coffee shops, restaurants to housing, cities are larger and more populated creating the perfect atmosphere for businesses to thrive when offering unique services. This potential to thrive entices many companies to open in these cities thereby creating greater options for residents.
Crowds – The idea of crowds either sends people running away or racing to get in on the action. Your reaction to crowds probably says a lot about the lifestyle you enjoy and where you will be most comfortable. Crowds are prevalent in cities attracting people who enjoy all of the highlights that were mentioned previously. If crowds make you cringe, maybe the country lifestyle is calling your name.
Country Life
Peaceful – With fewer buildings, less traffic, and a quieter atmosphere, country life is generally considered to be a peaceful way of living. Country life is traditionally associated with nature and a slow-paced, laid-back lifestyle.
Fewer Amenities – Because of the more spacious living style and fewer inhabitants, there are fewer amenities and options to choose from. Country life is definitely touted by those who embrace less connectivity and more focus on minimalistic pleasures.
Further Travel – With amenities and homes more spread out, a quick trip to the grocery store could require more travel than if you lived in the city. Rather than a store on the corner of your block, you may have to hop in your car and drive a bit to get to where you need to be. Often small towns are situated in close proximity to country properties or farms and even a relatively short commute away from a large city. But taking into consideration you are further removed from some amenities should be considered before committing to a quiet country lifestyle.
Whether you embrace a busy city life or a relaxed country style, find a home in the environment that suits you and your wants or needs in life.
